KT120 Tung-Sol Power Tubes
The KT120 Tung-Sol Power Pentode has to be one of, if not the most powerful tube in production today. It has a plate dissipation of 60 watts, making it the most powerful tube in the 6550, KT88, KT90 family.
Here are the comparisons
- KT120 = 60watts
- KT90 = 50watts
- KT88 = 42watts
- 6550 = 30watts
A pair of KT120 tubes used in a push-pull configuration can deliver power levels of 150 or more watts.
When used at the parameters found in existing 6550, KT88. KT90 circuits, the Tung-Sol KT120 is impervious to overload, delivering peak power with extreme reliability and long tube life.
However, taking advantage of the higher current handling capacity of these tubes, a very unique and super powerful and stable amp can be designed utilising the Tung-Sol KT120 and if used in circuits design for 6550-, KT88 or KT90, the KT120 will deliver unbelievable headroom.

This is a big tube in every way10 January 2018The tube is a relatively new tube I use in an Alessandro Redbone. It's a really loud amp so at low to medium volumes it offers significant clean headroom but warm overdrive is only a tweak away if you can and want to go past 2-3 on the volume dial. So excellent for home, studio and performance for a classic rock sound. It is too warm for straight jazz but comes alive when looking for wide range in tones and sweet harmonic distortion. This is a very big tube so is a pretty tight fit in the head and might not fit small amp heads. This makes input and removal a little tricky and the black plastic post broke off one - not a big deal but a little annoying.
